MCDP Quarterly County Committee Meeting

DATE CHANGE: The original date of this event was April 5th. The event has been postponed to the following Thursday, April 12th. 
The County Committee is the principle committee of the county party. The committee meets quarterly to hear reports and approve the business of the Monroe County Democratic Party including the designation of times and locations for county conventions. 
All members of the Michigan Democratic Party residing in Monroe County are invited to participate. Friendly members of the public are welcome to attend and observe. The business portion of this meeting begins at 7:00 PM and is expected to conclude by 8:00 PM. 
SPECIAL NOTICE: The County Committee will consider a proposed amendment to the bylaws at this meeting.  
Motion to Amend. A motion to amend the bylaws was put forth at the January 4, 2018 meeting of the County Committee. 
“I hereby move that the Bylaws of the Monroe County Democratic Party be amended to strike from Article VIII, Order of Business, the first item of business “Pledge of Allegiance” and replace it with “Call to Order” furthermore adding “Section 2. There shall be no place in the order of business for religious observances including but not limited to the Pledge of Allegiance, an invocation and/or a moment of silence. The order of business shall briskly move from Call to Order to the Roll Call of Officers without intermission.” 
Rules and Bylaws Committee Report. The Rules and Bylaws Committee met on January 31, 2018 and unanimously recommends a “no” vote on the Motion to Amend. 
Eligible voters must be members of the Michigan Democratic Party residing in Monroe County who were members on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 (30 days before the vote). Duly elected precinct delegates and delegates at large much be members the day of the vote.

The doors open at least 15 minutes ahead of the meeting, but MAY open UP TO an hour ahead of the meeting IF pre-meeting activities are scheduled, and close 30 minutes after the meeting. 
Democrats are invited to socialize after the meeting at McGeady’s Town Pub, 39 S Monroe St, Monroe, MI 48161. 

Earth Day Expo 2018

11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Join the celebration of our planet and all things green at the Monroe County Earth Day Expo. This free family-friendly event has activities for everyone and includes prize drawings, entertainment, and educational exhibits focused on the environment, health and wellness, and sustainable living. Also featured at the event will be environmental education efforts underway in our schools, including the Michigan Green Schools Program and a student project exploring Dinosaurs of the Great Lakes. 

MDP 2018 State Endorsement Convention

 The Michigan Democratic Party “endorses” candidates for the offices of Attorney General, Secretary of State and Supreme Court Justice at this convention. There is NOT a Primary Election to nominate candidates for these offices. This is NOT a convention to “nominate”; the nomination of these candidates takes place at the Fall Convention.

All members of the Michigan Democratic Party are invited to participate as delegates. To be a delegate, a person must be a member of the Michigan Democratic Party for at least thirty (30) days or by March 16, 2018 unless a person is a precinct delegate or delegate at large in which membership must be current on the day of the convention.

The credentials desk is open from 7:30 AM until 3:00 PM. Constituency Caucus meetings are held from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. Congressional District Caucuses meet from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. The convention begins at 2:30 PM.
